The Holy Family Parish Website (Amherst, NS)
Holy Family Parish was formed in December of 2006 after the amalgamation of the two Catholic Parishes in Amherst - Saint Charles Borromeo and Nativity of Our Lady. This was a result of the Forward in Faith Process put forth by the Archdiocese of Halifax. Plans began in 2008 to build a new Holy Family Church and Parish Center and on July 25, 2010 the new facility was formally dedicated.
Except for a short break during the summer months, our Parish Bulletin is published every week for our parishioners to bring home. We also post each bulletin on the website.
We have attempted to preserve the history of our two former parishes on this site. Much of our recent past is found on the About Us pages.
For more information about the early history of the Catholic Church on this area, Rev. John McCarthy, M.A. wrote The Story of the Establishment and Development of the Catholic Church in Amherst Nova Scotia. His chronicle is located on the Our History pages.
